After more than 30 years working with Australian businesses, I’ve learned that most business owners don’t struggle because they lack ambition, work ethic or expertise. They struggle because they don’t always have the financial visibility they need to make confident decisions.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked as an accountant, financial adviser, practice manager, business manager and bookkeeper. I’ve helped businesses navigate growth, manage cashflow challenges, improve profitability and make important strategic decisions.
I’ve also spent many years on the other side of the desk. As a General Manager, I experienced first-hand the pressures business owners face every day — managing cashflow, payroll, staff, customers, suppliers and growth, all while trying to make informed decisions with limited time and information.
After years of seeing good businesses struggle because they lacked financial visibility, I wanted to create a service that gave SMEs access to practical financial guidance without the cost of a full-time CFO.

Most businesses had an accountant. Many had a bookkeeper. Yet they were still asking questions like: Can I afford to hire? Why is revenue growing but profit isn’t? What will cashflow look like in three months? These aren’t bookkeeping questions. They’re business questions — and they’re often the difference between a business that survives and one that thrives.
That’s why I founded FocusPoint Advisory: to bridge the gap between traditional bookkeeping and expensive CFO consulting. Many SMEs don’t need a full-time CFO, but they do need someone who can help them understand their numbers, plan ahead and make better decisions.
